Sahra's Archives: A Weekend Trip
Friday: May 16th, 2025
I am on a trip, a short one of three days over the course of the weekend. So far, we arrive in 1:38 minutes. This trip has been filled with a little bit of tension and dynamics—not that there aren’t always conflicts along the way, but it feels odd. Passing through land, abandoned houses, trees, and more land. Roads and fields of grass, from yellow to pale green, and deep, rich green. The sky is a little cloudy, pale white opaque hue towards the sky. A lot of trucks as well since we are traveling to Dallas, not out of fun but sport reasons. I didn’t bring my camera this time, since I need to buy one rather soon. I say “we” because it is my parents, my two brothers, and my dog coming along for the family adventure.
We are arriving in 1:16 minutes to either the fields or the hotel. We have a game at 4 PM and another one at 8 PM. I’m catching up on all the latest music releases since today is Friday, and Spotify usually has a playlist of “Release Radar.” I just clicked on it. Right now, "French Girls” by Dove Cameron is playing. I don’t hate it. I really need a coffee—I only drank one this morning and then hit the road. Throughout the week, I have been working to finish school. I have a 100-question test for the first semester of English, which consisted of Writing and Grammar. Sadly, not my cup of tea. As a writer, I struggle in Grammar. My mom scolds me for it, and it’s really, really funny. I ended up with a B-, which is ok. In the second semester, we are focusing on Literature. I know, very broad. To narrow it a little bit more, we are reading poems, pieces of literature, and studying them from my understanding. As a reader, I think I am going to enjoy this half of the class and learn more.
My week went well with cleaning, sports, classes, and finally writing. While I was trying to finish school, I began writing. This week I was supposed to start editing my book; instead, I decided to take a little step back and went full-on worldbuilding. I mean from the Kingdoms to the important people and trying to make sense of the continent they live in, since I have sketched out a few maps, but most are too small to fit in. I’m also debating about the Kingdoms—maybe I will narrow it down to two or three—and clan/houses are currently eight. Those are staying. I have multiple versions of not only the opening of my book but also storylines and ideas. I want this world to be incredible, immersive, rich, and full with its own little secrets too. I want it to be very different from whatever anyone else has read—whatever it is that you read, let it be dystopian, fantasy, high fantasy, romantasy, etc. I want this to be a great little thing turned into a big, vast world inside my head unto the pages. One step at a time, right? It doesn’t have to be perfect, but just right.
We have arrived in Dallas. I am taking pictures to show you all. I will definitely be posting something Monday or Tuesday, starting something new. I had to make this rather short—thank you for reading.
Sincerely,
Sahra M. Shirley
